Very few understand why Mars can trigger the liver story — and why Rahu can make it spiral.
There is a fascinating principle in medical Jyotiṣa that gets reduced to one sentence:
Jupiter = Liver.
And then people stop.
But Jupiter is not merely a planetary label pasted onto an anatomical organ.
Guru represents an entire biological principle.
Jupiter signifies nourishment, expansion, growth, assimilation, fat, adipose tissue, abundance and accumulation.
And in the body, one of the most important organs carrying out the enormous work of processing, transforming, storing and regulating what we absorb is the liver.
This is why the Jupiter–liver connection is much deeper than simply saying:
“Jupiter rules the liver.”
Jupiter represents what the body takes in, builds, stores and expands.
And this is exactly where the story of the liver becomes interesting.
Because when Jupiter is functioning harmoniously, expansion is nourishment.
But when the Jupiterian principle becomes excessive, disturbed or improperly expressed, nourishment can become accumulation.
Growth can become excess.
Abundance can become congestion.
And fat — another important Jupiterian principle — can become excessive.
This is why Jupiter is so important when studying metabolic patterns.
But then comes the planet most people overlook.
MARS.
Mars is not simply “the planet of aggression.”
In medical Jyotiṣa, Mars carries the principle of Agni, heat, bile, sharpness, blood, muscular force and inflammatory intensity.
Mars is what heats things up.
Mars activates.
Mars cuts.
Mars burns.
Mars accelerates.
Mars brings force into whatever it touches.
So when Mars establishes a significant sambandha with Jupiter, the interpretation cannot simply be:
“Mars and Jupiter are together.”
The real question is:
WHAT DOES MARS DO TO THE JUPITERIAN PRINCIPLE?
Jupiter is expansion.
Mars is heat and activation.
Jupiter is nourishment.
Mars introduces intensity into that nourishment.
Jupiter is fat and accumulation.
Mars brings Agni and bile into the equation.
This is why the Mars–Jupiter relationship can become extremely important in liver and metabolic analysis.
The liver is fundamentally a processing and transformation centre.
So astrologically, when the Jupiterian field governing nourishment, fat and accumulation becomes influenced by the fiery and activating principle of Mars, the story can shift from:
healthy nourishment
to
disturbed processing.
And this is what the viral statement—
“Mars makes Jupiter bad and the liver becomes fatty”
—is attempting to point toward.
It is not saying that Mars is the liver.
It is saying something far more subtle:
MARS CAN DISTURB THE JUPITERIAN LIVER PRINCIPLE.
That distinction matters.
Because if you only memorise:
Jupiter = Liver
you will miss the mechanism.
You need to understand:
Jupiter gives the field. Mars agitates the field.
And then we arrive at the third player.
RAHU.
Rahu is where the picture can become dramatically amplified.
Rahu is associated with excess, abnormality, distortion, contamination, foreign influence, uncontrolled appetite, unusual manifestation and amplification of whatever it touches.
Rahu does not always have to be the original cause.
Sometimes Rahu behaves more like an amplifier of an existing planetary story.
Imagine:
Jupiter is already carrying a problem of excess.
Mars is already activating and disturbing that Jupiterian principle.
Then Rahu enters the equation.
What happens?
The tendency can become:
larger more excessive more distorted more difficult to regulate more abnormal in its expression.
This is why simply saying:
“Rahu causes disease”
misses the deeper principle.
Rahu often tells you:
“Something has gone beyond its natural boundary.”
Now look at the entire sequence.
JUPITER
Liver
Fat
Nourishment
Expansion
Assimilation
Accumulation
↓
MARS
Agni
Heat
Bile
Inflammation
Activation
Acceleration
↓
RAHU
Excess
Distortion
Amplification
Abnormality
Uncontrolled expression
This is the hidden architecture.
And suddenly the statement in that little viral image becomes much more interesting.
Because the liver is not being read through one planet.
It is being read through an interaction of principles.
Jupiter tells you about the substance and function.
Mars tells you about the heat, activation and disturbance.
Rahu tells you about the amplification and abnormality.
But there is one more layer that separates a serious Jyotiṣa reading from superficial medical astrology.
YOU CANNOT STOP AT THE PLANETS.
You have to ask:
Where is Jupiter?
Who owns that house?
Which house is Mars influencing?
What is Mars doing to Jupiter?
Where is Rahu?
Which planet rules Rahu’s sign?
Are Mars, Jupiter and Rahu connected through nakṣatra?
Are the 6th, 8th or 12th houses involved?
What is happening to their lords?
Which planet is running its daśā or antardaśā?
Do the transits activate the same pattern?
Because a natal combination is a potential architecture.
A daśā can provide the time of activation.
A transit can provide the trigger.
The relevant houses tell you where the manifestation is occurring.
And the nakṣatra can reveal the deeper mode through which the planetary energy is operating.
This is why two people can have Mars and Jupiter connected in their charts and experience completely different manifestations.
The planets provide the language.
The chart provides the grammar.
And the timing tells you when the sentence is spoken.
So when someone says:
“The liver is Jupiter.”
They are not wrong.
They are simply stopping at the first layer.
Because the real question in Jyotiṣa is never merely:
WHAT DOES THIS PLANET SIGNIFY?
The real question is:
WHAT IS HAPPENING TO WHAT THIS PLANET SIGNIFIES?
And in the liver story, that distinction can be profound.
Guru can signify the liver, fat, nourishment and expansion.
Maṅgala can bring Agni, bile, heat and inflammatory force into the Guru field.
Rāhu can magnify, distort and push the pattern beyond normal regulation.
So the sequence becomes:
GURU → MAṄGALA → RĀHU
The organ. The trigger. The amplifier.
That is why medical Jyotiṣa cannot be reduced to a chart showing:
“Jupiter = liver.”
The body is not a collection of isolated organs.
It is a network of interacting principles.
And the horoscope reflects those interactions.
The planet tells you WHAT.
The sambandha tells you HOW.
The house tells you WHERE.
The daśā tells you WHEN.
And when the same story repeats across the chart—
that is when Jyotiṣa stops being a list of planetary correspondences and becomes an actual language of the body.
Traditional medical-Jyotiṣa sources associate Jupiter with the liver and adipose tissue, while Mars is associated with bile and digestive fire; Rahu is traditionally associated with abnormal/poisonous influences and disturbances. These correspondences belong to the Jyotiṣa framework and are not a substitute for medical diagnosis.
